COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

USP’s primary mission is to ensure the neighborhood’s continued improvement and maximize quality-of-life for all who live, work, and visit the community. Since our inception in 1976, USP has invested in services and infrastructure that reflect the needs and desires of our residents, businesses, institutions, and community members. Your ideas improve our community and we've implemented many over the years – such as more public seating, more trees and greenery, cleaner and safer streets, year-round events, modernized pedestrian plazas, and free Wi-Fi in the park. Your input keeps us moving forward.

Now is the moment to plan for Union Square’s next chapter, and we welcome all who have a stake in the community to join us in this effort. In September 2018, the Union Square Partnership launched a 9-month collaborative Neighborhood Visioning and Planning initiative to shape the future of the Union Square – 14th Street district and selected Marvel Architects to guide the process. With the support of the Marvel team, we gathered ideas and suggestions from the community to develop a cohesive, long-term vision for the Union Square district and a concrete plan for USP’s future capital investments and programs. The input and guidance you share throughout this process will ensure that the Union Square - 14th Street is more vibrant, inclusive, secure, sustainable, and welcoming in the coming decade - and beyond.

A summary of our community outreach is below, as well as photos, resources, and presentations.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT TIMELINE

Below is a timeline recapping the Neighborhood Visioning and Planning process and key activities that took place between fall 2018 and spring 2019. These events provided numerous opportunities for more than 1,000 community members to get involved, share ideas, and help us plan for the future of Union Square-14th Street.

COMMUNITY CONVERSATIONS

Following the Plan’s launch, USP hosted a series of Community Conversations and presented at local Community Boards to share information about the Vision Plan, its implementation, and its impact. Community members joined the USP team to ask questions and learn more about the project’s next steps.
